Spoken soul-phenom isis has garnered a National Poetry Awards nomination for the second year in a row for her band (i am) isis’ latest music video “Get Free.” Last year, she won “Spoken Word Single of the Year”. This year, she is up for “Spoken Word Video of the Year.”

Since its release “Get Free” has received positive reviews for the do-it-yourself visuals shot at Staten Island’s Fenix Studios. Using muted tones and inspiring images, the video’s messaging highlights several key community issues including: the Occupy movements, marriage equality, anti bullying, self love and civil and human rights.

Opening with a poetic refrain and wailing guitar, the do-it-yourself visuals highlight several key community issues including: the Occupy movements, marriage equality, anti bullying, self love and civil and human rights.

In its fourth year, the National Poetry Awards was founded to nationally recognize and support emerging and established poets in craft. Past winners include Talaam Acey, Mahogany Browne, Tai Allen and Ed Mabrey.

Online voting for the finalists takes place now through July 20 online at www.thenationalpoetryawards.com/#!voting-ballots/galleryPage.  Winners will be announced August 24 at the National Poetry Awards ceremony at SoulLounge, located at 124 W Main Street in Louisville, KY.
