Congrats to Dear White People & KS Styling Team!
This past summer KS Styling Team founder Kimberly Steward (lead hair) and member Tray Styles (hair/makeup swing) joined the cast and crew for feature film Dear White People. In March, the satire won Indiewire and Tribeca Film Institute’s first-ever Project of the Year award. Earlier this month the Sundance Institute announced that the feature film will compete in the U.S. dramatic competition at the 2014 festival, the prestigious fest’s most prominent category.
The feature about four black students who attend an Ivy League college where a riot breaks out over an “African American” themed party thrown by white students, is a satire that explores racial identity in post-racial America. “The film is more about identity than racism,” said Just Simien, director of Dear White People.
