September 18, 2012 (NY) — Fresh off the success of its inaugural event last month, CITY KINGS will continue its retro music movement Friday, September 28 to help close out the season at Dekalb Market in Brooklyn, NY.
Presented by Noir Music Series, CITY KINGS will celebrate the music of Native Tongues, a pioneering artist collective renowned for bringing socially conscious and alternative music to the forefront of the 90’s hip-hop movement. The Native Tongues collective included such legendary artists as A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, De La Soul, Jungle Bros, Queen Latifah, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and Talib Kweli.
With more than 700 guests expected to be in attendance, CITY KINGS: Native Tongues will also be one of the last hurrahs for Dekalb Market as it closes out its last season. DJ CEO (Influence Series/Off The Wall) and DJ Reborn will keep the party moving with classic hits from the music collective, along with other musical surprises. Brooklyn’s own Daoud Abeid (Coup d’etat) and Khalil (Bushbabees) have joined in as hosts for the evening. Also, expect appearances from special invited guests, along with refreshments and shopping from the vendors located within Dekalb Market.
CITY KINGS: Native Tongues takes place Friday, September 28, 5-10pm at Dekalb Market, located at 138 Willoughby Street (@Flatbush Ave) in Brooklyn. The event is sponsored by YRB Magazine, Mazie’s Bites, CHARGED.fm, Noir Music Series and Dekalb Market.
